Back, stress problems?

I have acute back problems due to stress and weight issues.

A friend suggested that I try massage therapy as it can help release the muscles and realign some bones. Does massage therapy realign bones in addition to relaxing tightened muscles? I thought chiropractors or doctors were the only ones capable of helping with misalignments? To clarify, I'm asking about ACTUAL massages, not the "dark side" massages.

Chiropractors can provide spinal adjustments to help realign vertbrae. A lot of chiropractors now have massage therapists in their office as well. Chiropractors realign the spine and the massage therapist helps relax and relieve muscle tension and pain caused by stress and misalignment. The two services in combination is the best way to go in my opinion. They have both worked well for me!

Good luck!
Go to a chiropractor for realignment and consider having acupuncture also!
Massage therapy relaxes muscles and a relaxed muscle MAY allow the bones to realign themselves, depending on the individual situation.

Massage therapy is not intended to move the bones at all.

Chiropractors adjust spinal alignment.

Muscle tension may be the most common problem associated with "bad back" pains. This is because they tense unevenly and this can distort the spine slightly, causing a pinching sensation or even severe pain as the space between the bones, (which houses the nerves) becomes constricted.

Getting the muscles relaxed PRIOR to adjustment makes the chiropractor's job easier, and also gives a much higher chance of having a successful realignment stay in place.

For at least twenty years many chiropractors have been using ultrasonic equipment to accomplish this. They merely place the probes on the skin and let the equipment do its work for a few minutes, then they do the adjustment.

Getting your muscles in decent shape and then maintaining proper posture and work habits will go a long way to keeping you out of pain.

You already know something should be done about being overweight, as this causes muscle tension and strain, but the stress issues need to be considered separately.

You have advice above from a homeopathic source, but you may also wish to see a medical doctor about this.
I have back problems too and chiropractors cost money and I was going a lot. So, I purchased something called "Dongyang Medical Low Frequency Rhythm Touch" -- it's similar to what my chiropractor used to relax my back prior to an adjustment. You may be able to buy one on line, I bought my at a home show. It was not expensive and it works between visits to my chiropractor.
Go to the chiropractor~ its the only way
No, massage therapy only will help reduce stiffness in the muscles. Ask the therapist to do gliding strokes as well as kneading. The first one is relaxing, but the latter will get rid of the stiffness. Spinal adjustment is the job of the chiropractor. A chiropractor may also use ice packs and ultrasound therapy on you.

In addition, swimming and other water exercises are recommended for many back problems. Also good pain relievers are sitz baths with Epsom salts. (You can buy a plastic sitz bath that fits over your toilet at a drugstore for $10-$15).

Take yoga classes from a qualified yoga instructor and tell him/her about your back condition. Yoga can be modified for people like you and ends up being very beneficial for posture and spinal alignment as well as strength and relaxation of muscles.
No. Massage therapy has no relation to bone manipulation. That would be an Osteopath or a Chiropractor. Massage therapy does manipulate lymphatic drainage and loosen tight muscles. Another great stress reducing back therapy is Hatha Yoga. Its gentle yet effective for back problems.
go see the chiropractor
Honeymark has a Pain Relief Cream that might help your condition. It has Manuka Honey in it. Manuka Honey diffuses deep into the skin and gets right to the effected area.

chiropractors usually give those medical massages and they actually help, they put you under that medical red light first to relax all of your muscles and then they have this special massage therapy but not the classic massage cause you have to be real careful so seeing a chiropractors would really help you. I've done it and it worked wonders.
