What happens when you stress bone?

So, I heard from someone that when you stress bone (put pressure on it, etc.) that the bone mass will actually increase making your bone somewhat larger (width). I'm not quite sure if this is true and actually did an internet search on it, but nothing came up.

Does anyone know if this is true or myth? And what happens if you do stress bone?

A couple of things can happen. The bone can increase in density due to the need to keep from breaking or it can break leaving it stronger once healed at the site, but weaker next to the break. The bone may actually become larger, but in most cases simply more dense.

Exercise can increase bone density and make you less susceptible to fractures.

Is this what you mean by stress? Exercise.
