PTSD? (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder)?

I think I have PTSD which is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. I suffer from panic attacks but I've been looking into PTSD and I have been showing all the symptons. Anyone have any good information about this and if maybe depression and my panic attacks might affect it? I'm only 14 I'll be 15 soon.

The first thing you need to understand is that it is a well known phenomena that people who research psychiatric diseases tend to find signs of every disease in themselves. That even includes diseases that are specific to the opposite gender. SO...lets put the expensive books down for a few minutes, ok?

Think back to your past. A primary diagnostic criterion for PTSD is that you have experienced a trauma that is "outside the normal range of human experience". Examples might be witnessing an accident where someone loses a limb, being helpless and terrified for a long period of time (imagine being the victim in a splatterpunk movie...but for real), being raped, longterm child abuse, etc. IF you can HONESTLY say yes, then go on.

1. Do you experience anxiety or fear at images that pertain to your trauma? For example, if your trauma occurred in an elevator, do you panic in elevators and closets now?

2. Do you become VERY angry, very suddenly, for no reason, or over ridiculously small reasons?

If you can honestly say yes to both of these, you should talk to your parents about seeing a specialist in Anxiety Disorders (PTSD is an Anxiety Disorder). IF not...you may have issues, but PTSD is probably not one of them.

The most recently released research about panic attacks is that they are brought on by increasing Carbon Dioxide levels in your blood. Breathing calmly and slowly (and with no paper bag), but very deeply, may help reduce the symptoms...a CPAP or other source of pressurized air, or an oxygen concentrator, may help you far more than any pill or therapy.

In order to suffer PTSD you have to have experienced some sort of significant trauma event- and regular life doesn't count. I think for your own peace of mind, you need to quit reading up on mental disorders and afflictions before you work yourself into a real problem. If it will set your mind at ease, go speak with the school psychologist. I imagine most of what ails you is puberty, which can be a mean trick to play on a person. But wait on finding a diagnosis until you have spoken with somebody trained to make those decisions. If you truly have panic attacks, there are medications and therapies that can help. If you have problems with depression, there are still things that can help. But reading about them and taking polls will not solve the problem. Go see the professional, and then get the answers.
wow, you're so young to have to deal with stuff like that.

i have PTSD. i was in a VERY abusive marriage back in the early 90's. after i left him, i had nightmares for MONTHS! i kept feeling like he was following me, and he would find me %26amp; kill me. it was very scary!

to this DAY, i still have a little of it. not as much. i sought counseling when i began divorce proceedings, and continued for 2 more years afterwards. but i still have trust issues to this day because of him %26amp; what he did to me.

i would say, see a counselor. see what he or she has to say about what you're feeling %26amp; going through.

it's no fun!
