Fastest way to heal stress fractures?

i have a stress fracture in my shin from playing basketball. i thought it was just shin splints so i played on it for the last 2 months of the season. now that i have been diagnosed i am in an air cast and am on crutches. i know the best way to heal it is by resting it, but soccer starts this weekend (6 days) and i know i'll miss the first game but i really want to try and play in the second. oh and i'm also using this ultrasound thing that is supposed to help. so i guess i'm wondering if theres anything i can do to make it heal faster. and also what the consequences will be if i return too soon (i am a goalie so i dont run that much and i have been off it for about 3+ weeks)

the best thing you can do is stay off of it! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's the truth. Stress fractures are no different from other fractures...they just have the word stress attached and for some reason people don't take them as seriously. They are actual fractures and bone takes 6-8 weeks to heal regardless what you do typically. if you are younger, have great nutrition, and are compliant with non-weight bearing you have a chance of speeding this up some. However, you will likely have to work your way back into sport again. Sorry, but you have to keep in mind that you'll want to take care of this well now, so you don't have chronic problems all season or into other sports. Good luck.
